Discover Costa Rica

There’s something about Costa Rica that keeps travelers coming back year after year. It’s one of those rare destinations that offers a little bit of everything; lush rainforests, incredible wildlife, volcanoes, waterfalls, beautiful beaches, luxury resorts, and easy-going adventure all in one place.

Whether it’s ziplining through the jungle, soaking in natural hot springs, spotting sloths and monkeys, or ending the day along the coast at sunset, Costa Rica has a way of appealing to every type of traveler.

Over the years, I’ve designed many Costa Rica vacations for couples and families, and I often return to the same style of itinerary because it simply works so well. It balances adventure with true relaxation, without the rushed pace that can come from trying to see too much.

With this approach, you experience two completely different sides of Costa Rica, the rainforest and volcano region paired with the slower rhythm of the coast.  All in a way that feels intentional, seamless, and ideal for a first visit.

The Itinerary

START IN ARENAL

Favorite Experiences Here

🌿 Private Sloth Tour

🌿 Balsa River Rafting

🌿 Hanging Bridges Tour

🌿 Safari Float

Whether traveling as a couple or a family, this region offers an incredible balance of soft adventure, wildlife, and time to simply take it all in. Imagine waking up to the sound of birds singing in the canopy, sipping your coffee overlooking lush rainforest, and spending your days spotting sloths, floating peaceful jungle rivers, and experiencing the unique nature that makes Costa Rica feel so alive. And of course, no stay in Arenal feels complete without carving out time to unwind in the area’s natural hot springs.

Flying into San José places you within reach of Costa Rica’s jungle heart, where a private driver seamlessly escorts you to your hotel, making your transition feel easy from the very beginning. By partnering with exceptional local guides and ethical tour operators, we can ensure your experience is immersive, thoughtful, and respectful of the ecosystem that makes this region so special.

Where to Stay

The Springs Resort & Spa

One of my favorite luxury stays in Arenal! The volcano views are incredible, the natural hot springs feel immersive and not commercialized, and the property strikes a wonderful balance between adventure and relaxation. Ideal for couples, honeymooners, and families wanting a true “wow” factor.

END IN PAPAGAYO

Favorite Experiences Here

🌿 Catamaran Sail

🌿 Beach Days & Resort Time

🌿 Snorkeling

🌿 Wildlife Boat Tour

After the adventure and lush rainforest surroundings of Arenal, I love transitioning clients to the Papagayo region for the second half of their trip. Convenient to Liberia Airport, staying in this area allows for a smoother departure, while also offering some of Costa Rica’s most beautiful resort experiences.

Papagayo has a calmer, more refined feel than some of Costa Rica’s other beach regions, making it especially ideal for couples, honeymooners, and families wanting to balance relaxation and adventure. Think warm ocean breezes, golden sunsets, tropical cocktails by the pool, and slow mornings. And for travelers who appreciate the convenience of an all-inclusive stay, Papagayo offers several excellent options without sacrificing the quality or natural beauty Costa Rica is known for.

Where to Stay

The Westin Reserva Conchal, All-Inclusive Golf Resort & Spa

For travelers wanting an easier beach finish with the convenience of an all-inclusive plan, this is one of my favorite options in the Papagayo region! The setting is lush and expansive, and the beach is beautiful. It works especially well for couples and families who want a relaxed final few days without sacrificing comfort or service.

WHY IT WORKS

THE JOURNEY MATTERS

While I’ve designed many Costa Rica vacations for couples and families over the years, I find myself returning to this style of itinerary again and again.

It strikes one of my favorite balances in travel: adventure paired with genuine relaxation, without the exhausting pace that can come from trying to see too much too quickly.

With this approach, you can experience two completely different sides of Costa Rica… from lush rainforests and volcano views to the slower rhythm of the coast, all while keeping the flow intentional and manageable for a first visit.

In a destination built around Pura Vida, slowing down is part of the experience!

A few things that make a big difference

✨

Costa Rica is a smaller country, but travel takes longer than many expect.

Mountain roads, weather, and winding routes mean transfer days can be longer than travelers anticipate. This is the biggest reason I prefer a thoughtfully paced itinerary over trying to cram too many regions into one trip.

✨

Fewer hotels often creates a better experience.

Constantly moving from place to place can quickly become exhausting. Spending more time in fewer locations allows you to settle in and actually enjoy the rhythm of Pura Vida.

✨

Not all all-inclusive resorts are created equal.

Costa Rica isn’t as traditionally all-inclusive-focused as destinations like Mexico or Jamaica. Choosing the right resort (and understanding whether an all-inclusive plan actually makes sense for your travel style) matters more than people realize.

✨

Private transfers are worth the investment in Costa Rica.

Especially after a flight day, having a trusted driver waiting for you can make your experience feel dramatically smoother and more comfortable from the very beginning.

✨

The weather can vary significantly by region.

One part of Costa Rica may be sunny and dry while another is lush and rainy, which is why destination pairing and timing matter in order to plan well.

Travel Tip

Plan for early mornings

In Costa Rica, early mornings are often the best time for wildlife spotting, outdoor excursions, and enjoying the rainforest before the afternoon heat or rain moves in. Many tours start early for a reason — this is when animals are most active and the scenery is especially beautiful
